Baltimore National Aquarium

This past weekend my mom and her husband, Sam, traveled to Baltimore, MD, for an orthopedic conference. Baltimore is only an hour away so my mom turned it into a mini-vacation for all of us! We stayed right on the water of Baltimore's beautiful harbor downtown and it was just gorgeous.

On Friday while David was at work and Sam was attending his medical conference, my mom and I took the kids to the National Aquarium. It was huge and the best one I have been to for sure. It really seemed the aquatic life were more in their natural habitat. The big display is designed like a ship where the water surrounds you with all the different fish and you continue to descend like you are scuba diving. So, there are various fish and wildlife at the top and then it continues to change as you walk lower and lower inside the display. My favorite were the various kinds of sharks and then at the lowest level all the stingrays which were huge.

The views from inside the aquarium were just as breathtaking
Big fish and alligators
Dilan was having a good time because she could get up close
Saw shark's actual nose next to Dilan
The dolphins were really neat too - you could literally sit there and watch them for hours. One actually came up to the glass and started playing with the kids. It had such personality - it was literally laughing with them and goofing off.

Tropical area with lots of plants and vegetation
We only had a short walk along the harbor to get to the aquarium so we really enjoyed the scenery too. We even saw a wedding taking place. That night we took a taxi ride to a nearby restaurant where we ate delicious crabs which is what Maryland is known for. Drew could not stop talking about his first taxi ride - he absolutely loved it.

We went to Baltimore last year. Adam was so excited for the aquarium...however, when we got there, it was so PACKED!! There was a Manchester United soccer game being played, and everyone got free tickets to the aquarium with their soccer tickets. It was miserable. However, we are sure it would have been a much more pleasant time without all the people. What a neat place. We hope to be able to visit you soon.

Wow, looks like you're having a great time exploring your new home!! Great pics... especially the one of Dilan laughing, and the dolphin playing with Drew. Love it!! You look great, and the kids are getting so big! So glad to see that you're all doing well. :)
